What does a CPU do? A central processing unit is the device in your computer that handles all the information going though it and processes it. This is the main performace deciding object inside of your computer. Because of the huge amount of data going though your computer the CPU uses the RAM to store this data untill the CPU can get to it. The two major CPU chip makers currently are Intel and AMD. Intel is commanly known as the better chip maker with faster chips even if AMD has more cores. Because of this better speed Intel cards are for the most part more expensive to the AMD counter part. AMD chips are not as common in desktops and power machines as they are compaired to the mobile market. The reason for this is because the AMD chips provide better battery life and are cheaper to produce.
